Iron Man Three
All kinds of Awesome! (spoilers) This film is hilarious. It didn’t take itself too seriously which is uncommon for action films. (Before the film started, i saw the trailer for fast and Furious… 6. That’s ridiculous!)  The whole thing with the kid was great (however how come his mum never gave a comment as to how her son was keeping hold of an iron man suit :S.) Pepper Pots is...

The Host (contains spoilers)
I haven’t read this book by Meyer, so consequently I didn’t know anything about the story or the characters. The plot was interesting, the whole world being taken over and it’s only her and her brother until she gets captured… blah blah blah… I’m not going to repeat the whole story. So she meets two boys, one from her past which Melanie loves; and Ian, the one...

Charlie St. Cloud
Oh goodness me… that film was emotional.  I wasn’t expecting a good film, and it wasn’t amazing, but it had impact and I connected with Charlie. Who knew Zac Efron was good? (Plus his hair holds magic qualities!) There may be a slight possibility that I am crushing… just a bit… It was really sentimental and tear-worthy. It’s quite shocking but it does make the...

Les Miserables
Due to the incredibly large amount of hype this film has received of recent, I couldn’t help but be a little disappointed by it. I mean, it was quite good, but because of all the comments and the OH MY GOD THIS WAS AMAZING(!) shouts in my ears, I was expecting something a lot better. I’m not saying it was terrible, but I don’t want to see it again. The singing was pretty good...

Pitch Perfect
Really Good. I was surprised actually. I mean, from the advert I thought it was going to be like another version of Step up or Glee, but it was really so much better. True, the plot was a little sparse, but the characters were good. They were all different and individual. Good cast, of course. (Fat Amy - Rebel Wilson - is becoming a bit type cast…) Jesse was amazing! From the moment he sang...

Sixteen Candles
I don’t know what it is about this film, but it leaves you feeling good and warm. I mean, the plot is basic and there are bad points, but I liked it. I liked the main character, she was well played and I felt for her. The Geek was great. The love interest lacked a bit of substance, but was appealing to the eye. It’s one of those films you have to watch before you die.

Life of Pi
Nope… not for me. The story sounds like a good book (I haven’t read it), but is did not make a good film. It was pure special effects. It was like handing the audience every single special effect technique ever on a plate. It was too much. I saw it in 2D (I like 2D), but it is unnecessary. Actually, making this film was unnecessary. I was bored throughout, I’m sorry to say. I...

Seven Psychopaths
So good. Surprisingly so. The plot was brilliant. A man writing a screen play called ‘Seven Psychopaths’, and he meets these said psychopaths along the way. Now as it is about these kind of “Mafia Men”, there is violence and a bit of gore, but because the film was about that, it made sense and made up for the head shots (which there are a few, but not overly so). What made...

Un bonheur n'arrive jamais seul
Happiness Never Comes Alone Charming French rom-com. A jazz pianist who only has one night stands with women in their twenties, falls for a woman of 35 with two ex-husbands and three kids. It was really funny, with the running gag that she is incredibly clumsy. As Sacha is a jazz pianist, there wasn’t enough piano playing in the film. He was obviously very talented, but it wasn’t used...

50/50
Tears! Of course I cried near at the ending! Who wouldn’t be?  The main thing I didn’t like about this film was Seth Rogens character. Yeah. I found him annoying and horrible, really. All the characters were a bit one dimensional  but that’s standard these days… I’d been waiting to watch this film for a while, and I couldn’t help being slightly disappointed by...

This Means War
Gotta say, it wasn’t as bad as I thought it was going to be. I am surprised to say that it was pretty funny! (They have a program they watch together!!!) The acting was good, but who can fault Tom Hardy? The girl was kinda good - played by Reese Witherspoon - but I thinking she was lacking something. There was one thing I found annoying however SPOILER: she didn’t pick Tuck! He was...

Untouchable
Film of the Year. This is one of the best films I have seen, probably ever. It’s about an unlikely friendship between a man who just got out of jail (Driss) and a rich man who is disabled from the neck down (Phillipe). Driss only applies for the job to care for Phillipe in order to be turned down to gain Benefits, but he gets chosen. Phillipe likes the fact that he hands him the phone...

The Prestige
A very smart film. However, I did find it quite a bit boring until the end. It may have been that I wasn’t in the right mood for it, but still…  It is a classic Christopher Nolan film, thrilling and just so clever. It was quite shocking at times, and if you’re a bird lover, brace yourself.  As I can’t stop mentioning, it was incredibly smart! It’s one of those films...

Now Is Good
A girl has had cancer for 14 years, and has now decided to stop the treatment. The film is about how she uses her last moments to the full and tries to do as much as she can as fast as she can. I was surprised as to how good this film actually was. It had the perfect balance of comedy and sadness. For about a third of this film I was crying, and the majority of the rest I was laughing. It was...

The Dark Knight Rises
I can’t even… Gosh this was good!  I really liked the second Batman film, and thought that this was going to go terribly bad, so wasn’t going to see it. What a mistake! This film was amazing and soo much better than i thought it would be! All the acting was great, really. I thought that Anne Hathaway was going to ruin everything, but she surprised me. She was pretty good as Cat...

Knee Deep - Casus and Assembly
Astounding physical theatre! I always love a good show of physical theatre, and this was no exception.  Okay. My level of gymnastics is a forward roll, so I was mesmerized by the tricks and stunts this three-man, one-woman cast. There were all sorts of flips and tricks that went seamlessly into the next ones. They just kept going! One after the other after the other!  They also used ropes/fabric...

TJ Muller and the Dixie Six
TJ Muller and the Dixie Six and an amazing Dixieland band that happened to be performing in the Meadows yesterday!  “We’re too cheap to get a venue, so we perform here whenever it’s sunny… so about once a year.” It was great! The Band: Trumpet, cornet, double bass, guitar, trombone, washboard and voice. Wo doesn’t love Dixieland?  Plus! This group of people...

The Super Serious Show - CleftClips
This lady walks up to a group of us, and gives us tickets to this for free… Sure! The first half was really good and and really funny. Then it got quite inappropriate for a 14 year old, even though it says that is 14+.  It was a series of three stand-ups with a guest host - that night happened to be Marcel Lucont who was the best part! The first stand-up was a musical comedy act but Rachel...

The Les Clöchards: Dirty But Nice
One of the best things in the Fringe! The music is amazing and the band is hilarious!  It is a hobo rock band from an small island near France. They perform songs that pretty much everyone knows and put their own spin on them. I absolutely loved it and I really want to see it again! Go and see this! ********* 9 stars from me!

A Midsummer Nights Dream - Productions in...
I enjoyed this production much more than I expected myself to. It was incredibly funny and really well done!  Okay, there was a unnecessary link to a detention class. But aside from that the production was pretty perfect! They told the whole play with added humor through the way the actors spoke and acted. The stage is small in the Speigeltent Threatro, but I got completely wrapped into the story...

Macbeth - by Teatr Biuro Podrozy
This production was absolutely crazy! I mean: stilts, fire and motor bikes!  It was really atmospheric being in the Edinburgh Old College Quad. It’s a late show (10:30pm) so the darkness was settling in and it was quite eery. The use of fire was fantastic, and the stilts added spook to the three witches. The motor bikes were just crazy. There were so many ways that someone could get hurt in...

10 Things I Hate About You (1999)
Typical teenage film, predictable story, obvious outcome, that kind of thing. I enjoyed it. It was funny and quite charming. The acting was pretty good. Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Julia Stiles and Larisa Oleynik were really good! Heath Ledger was amazing. It was a fun film and enjoyable. Watch if in a girly mood.

What's Your Number?
It wasn’t too bad. I didn’t like Anna Faris’ character, I found Ally annoying and I struggled to like her. Chris Evans’ character was good, though. I think they both did well for their parts. Plot-wise, it was tedious and predictable. Kinda boring as well, but watchable. The whole concept of the “number” was bad. It wasn’t a good idea to base a film on,...

Chasing Liberty
I think I might be addicted. This was worse than Chalet Girl, but still watchable. Predictable, and was basically the same as ‘First Daughter’. I liked Ben, not so much Annna. The plot was better than First Daughter, but mainly because they travelled across Europe. So, don’t seek this film out, but if you haven’t got anything else to watch, go for it. I found myself...

Chalet Girl
Another one of these films… It wasn’t very good, the story was worse than usual, and I didn’t really like the characters. But… I did find myself broadly smiling when everything came together in the end. What can I say, I can’t help liking cheesy, romantic films. You win some, you lose some. It wasn’t good, but it wasn’t bad… watchable. One of those...

Frankenstein
Is there be anything Benedict Cumberbatch can’t be? Last night, at the Cameo cinema, a film of Danny Boyle’s Frankenstein was shown, and i was lucky enough to get tickets. Benedict Cumberbatch was the creature, and Johnny Lee Millar played the creator. It was absolutely fantastic!  The play goes begins with the creature learning how to walk, then how to articulate and read. You see...

Keith (2008)
This film is Amazing! I absolutely Loved it. It was funny, and happy, and charming, and so so sad. I’m crying over it. I Loved Keith. I always fall in love with the arrogant, selfish, annoying, frustrating, funny, inside-I’m-broken guys in books and in films. Keith just adds on to that list. He was amazing. The plot was great, the same old teen romance, but it was awesome. A film...

The Art of Getting By
This film was lovely. And I thought it was brilliant. Freddie Highmore is the awkward genius star of the film, with help from Emma Roberts. They were so perfectly cast, it is unbelievable. You could emote with the characters as you see their messed up lives unfold. It was truly beautiful. The plot was so simple, yet incredibly effective. Plus, there is a great cliff-hanger ending that leaves you...

Ice Princess (2005)
Two in one day! Man…  Well… this one wasn’t as good as Geek Charming, but it was more graceful and beautiful seeming as it was about ice skating. Not much plot, but hey… what are you expecting, Inception on Ice? (Inform a director, this could work. An ice rink, inside an ice rink, inside an ice rink!) Another film that would be bearable to watch on the TV if nothing else...

Geek Charming (2011)
I know… It is a disney channel film that are predictable and all that jazz, but OK… i liked it. I’m in the mood for predictable and easy romance. It was pretty good in the whole scheme of those kind of films.  It starred completely the right people - Sarah Hyland and Matt Prokop.  There isn’t much to say about these films, but if you’re ever in the mood for an easy...

Snow White and the Huntsman
Thanks to the Queen, my Tuesday was free from school! Dominion at 11.20, Snow White and the Huntsman.  This film was not great. The plot had a lot of holes and there were added, completely pointless scenes that were utterly unnecessary! At one point of humour, though, the Huntsman (Chris Hemsworth) shouted “Troll!!!” I couldn’t stop thinking about Troll Hunters (the idea of it,...

Dark Shadows
A film that isn’t very good, but you would watch if there was nothing else on TV at the time. It wasn’t great, funny sometimes, but just kind of dull. Not much happened and it was all really predictable. The story was strange, but uninteresting to the point where I was sitting in the cinema thinking up back stories for each character to make fun. It was like watching ‘Only...

Monsieur Lazhar
This film was beautiful! Due to the trailer, I expected this film to be a heart-warming film about a substitute teacher who is awesome. Well… the substitute - Monsieur Lazhar - was pretty awesome, bu this film was heart-breaking if anything of the sort. It was funny and sad and tragic and loving and wonderful! The film is in Canadien French and tells the story of how a class of 10-year-old...

Only You (1994)
Only You is a 1994 love story which is the most predictable thing i have ever watched! And I’ve seen a vast amount of predictable films… Okay… I did only start to watch it with my Brother and Father because Robert Downy Jr was in it, and we all know he’s great! He was pretty good in it. You know, I don’t think he ages. At all…  Anyway, the film follows a woman...
